The hypocrisy of child abuse in many Muslim countries | Shaista Gohir http://gu.com/p/2ggm9/stw
There are a number of inter-locking explanations for the sexual abuse of children, particularly in poor 3rd world countries with surplus populations, not only Muslim cultures. Poverty seems to lead directly to child sexual exploitation. Where population is surplus life is cheap, especially that of children and women who are easy and lucrative targets for exploiters. An additional factor in Muslim cultures is the extreme conservatism and patriarchy and a type of feudal elitism. Due to patriarchy women and children are viewed as property and have no rights unless the male in charge feels like granting any, which can be withdrawn on a whim. This is why the sexual abuse of children is such a non-issue in Muslim cultures. The feudal perspective that there are some people with rights (men) and everyone else has no rights (women, children and servants) is akin to the attitude of the slave owners in the historical American southern states. Any in these categories who try to complain of their mistreatment are likely to be subjected to violent retribution for causing the man to “lose face”. The men feel “entitled”.
